WHAT IS WRITING WELL?

WRITING WELL is an award-winning course which combines creative writing with wellbeing. The course will improve your emotional wellbeing through developing your creative writing skills. It has many unique and innovative features all designed to improve your creativity and health. You will find it  engaging and fun.  

 

Writing Well is a creative and emotional journey which encourages you to use creativity to address negative thoughts, feelings and events from your personal past.  It offers relief from the everyday stress and anxiety we all experience.  You will learn coping strategies including meditation and mindfulness.  

 

No matter what level your writing, by attending the course your writing and sense of wellbeing will improve.  

 

What do We Do on the Course?

 

During the course you will create your own stories, poems, articles and journals.  You will learn the ‘writers’ toolkit’ and apply  it to your work.   Your writing and emotional journey take place in a friendly and supportive environment and is delivered by experienced tutors.

 

We are passionate about enabling people to take their creativity to a new, exciting level while learning how to use writing to enhance their emotional wellbeing. 

 

 

 

 

THE WRITING WELL STORY

Over a short period Writing Well became an award-winning course through the amazing people who attended.  What began as a course developed into much more with many of those who attended keeping in touch and finding the self-belief to perform their work.  

Many performed their work to a large audience at a ‘Words are Wands’ event in January 2019.  Later, many read their work live on Wythenshawe FM. In August 2019 some performed at an event commemorating Peterloo and in September read their work on BBC Radio Manchester.  Such is the amazing transformation we have seen in people who at the start of the course were too shy or anxious to read their work to the group.  Through the wellbeing practices of gratitude, meditation and mindfulness they found the inner-strength that was always there.   Now they are reenergised and have the confidence to face life’s challenges.

Tutors keep in touch with past attendees and we consider ourselves the Writing Well circle of friends.  Many consider us ‘fam’. We have a WhatsApp Group which you can join, there are regular meetings at cafes to catch up over a tea and coffee and we also look out for opportunities to take their creativity and wellbeing further.  We run a related ‘Speaking Well’ course in South Manchester which is free to attend.
