Do you have a great story idea but are unsure how to develop and structure it? Or seeking inspiration to structure and write a book, play or screenplay?

 Then, The Hero and Heroine’s Story is for you!

Attention all aspiring and established writers!  Join us for an all-day immersive creative writing course that will awaken your imagination and help you create, plot and structure compelling stories.

Guided by experienced mentors passionate about the written word, the workshop is aimed at all experience levels.  It will expand your writing horizons, nurture your creativity, and develop your inner voice through engaging and informative activities.

Run at the beautiful Bridge Inn in picturesque Prestbury, ‘The Hero and Heroine’s Journey’ provides step-by-step guidance on structuring stories.  Through engaging (fun!) activities, you will learn and try a range of planning, plotting and structuring approaches and activities until you find which one suits you best to craft the perfect page-turner and engage your reader’s attention.  Equally, if you want to write for stage or screen, the workshop will examine the time-trusted approaches to keep audiences engaged to the curtain fall or credit roll.

The Hero and Heroine’s Journey encourages you to develop your approach to vary, bend, and break these established rules to create unique, dynamic writing.

The workshop also promotes writing’s well-being benefits, providing a supportive environment for personal growth and self-care.  Writing promotes wellness, reduces stress, and improves mental clarity.  This transformative process has a positive impact on your overall well-being.

THE WORKSHOP INCLUDES

Activities and top tips on unleashing the power of compelling storytelling and mastering techniques that bring your words to life.  Engage in prompts and exercises to ignite your imagination, enabling you to delve deeper into your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.  Our carefully curated activities will sharpen your introspection, reflection, and self-discovery skills.

Through engaging activities and a wealth of resources for you to keep, we will examine:

  • The Three-Act structure and variations
  • The Seven Key Steps of Story Structure
  • Premise and the designing principle
  • Beats, temperature, and dimensions
  • Short and long story arcs
  • Character-driven and story-driven approaches
  •  Needs and desires
  • Plot and story.

But the journey doesn’t end there!  Alongside developing the perfect plot, receive a certificate of attendance and a writers’ goodie bag!

THE VENUE

The venue is the wonderful Bridge Inn in the picturesque village of Prestbury.  The workshop is based in a characterful creative room with opportunities to visit the Inn’s beautiful garden – the perfect sanctuary to relax, reflect, plan and write.  As well as refreshments, lunch will be served at their picturesque terrace restaurant – an excellent opportunity to chill and socialise while soaking in the scenic views with time to wander the beautiful garden.  Adorned with blooming flowers, nooks, and seating areas, relax and recharge for part two of your creative day.

Who would benefit from attending The Hero and Heroine’s Journey?

•  Budding Writers: Those with a great story idea for a book, play, film or TV series who need support with plotting, planning,  structure and character development. The course helps writers generate ideas, improve their storytelling abilities, and refine their writing style.

• Creativity Seekers: Writing and storyboarding can unleash creativity and inspiration. By combining writing, sketching, and storyboarding, participants can tap into their imagination, experiment with different mediums, and create unique, superbly crafted stories.

• Individuals Seeking Emotional Release: Writing and storying provide a therapeutic outlet for individuals seeking emotional release. The workshops allow them to express themselves freely, gain clarity, and release pent-up feelings.

 

• Individuals Seeking Self-Discovery: Writing is a pathway to self-discovery and self-understanding. It encourages introspection, prompts deep reflection, and helps individuals explore their values, beliefs, and personal narratives. Journaling can uncover hidden desires, clarify life purpose, and aid in the journey of self-exploration.

• Anyone Seeking a Creative Outlet: Writing and journaling offers a creative outlet for anyone seeking a fulfilling and expressive activity. It provides an opportunity to try various planning approaches, explore different writing styles, and enjoy the process of self-expression without judgment or constraints.

2. What should I bring with me?

A notebook or writing pad and a pen. All other materials are provided on the day for you to keep.

3. Will the lunch cater for my dietary needs?

Please tell us your dietary needs two weeks before the workshop, and we will ensure this is met.

4. Do I need to be good at writing, drawing and storyboarding to attend?

The course is for everyone, whatever their previous experience. Attending the workshop will improve your writing and your well-being.

5. What time should I arrive?

Refreshments are available from 9:30 a.m. We recommend arriving ten or fifteen minutes before the session starts.

6. Do I have to read my writing out?

No one will pressure you to read your writing out. However, we hope you will because it builds confidence and articulating your thoughts and feelings benefits your well-being. There is no need to feel anxious or worried about this.   We hope everyone will read their work, especially as the workshops are informal and welcoming.

7. Is the workshop room easily accessible for people with mobility needs?

The room is on the Inn’s first floor and accessed by stairs of a moderate gradient. There is no lift. Before booking, we suggest contacting the venue to see how they can meet your specific mobility needs.

8. How many people are attending?

We limit places to 12 to ensure everyone receives our full attention and support throughout the day. We recommend booking early, as places are limited and go quickly.
